OpenAI’s Daybreak Blue and Daybreak Red models are now available through Amazon Bedrock for approved security teams. The launch adds an AWS buying and governance route for the same controlled cyber-access program; it does not make Daybreak a public, self-serve API.
AWS also published Bedrock rates. In US East (N. Virginia), both Daybreak routes carry a 10% uplift over the equivalent direct OpenAI short-context token rates across input, cache write, cache read, and output. The live table above shows the direct OpenAI baseline.
What changed
Daybreak previously required OpenAI or an approved partner route. Eligible organizations can now enroll in Daybreak Access and, once approved, invoke the models from the Amazon Bedrock console or through the Responses API using AWS’s bedrock-mantle endpoint.
The two access levels serve different work:

OpenAI recommends Blue for broad defensive work. Red is the escalation route when an approved task needs the specialized behavior of GPT-5.6 Cyber.
AWS versus direct pricing
The launch is not a price cut. AWS’s published Bedrock price card currently shows this relationship:

AWS does not list a long-context rate for Daybreak Red. Daybreak Blue inherits GPT-5.6 Sol’s short- and long-context structure. Check the current Amazon Bedrock price card before procurement because model regions and service tiers can change.
The premium may still be economical for an AWS-first enterprise if centralized identity, logging, security review, cloud commitments, and one vendor bill reduce operational work. Small teams already approved for direct OpenAI access are less likely to recover the uplift.
What this means for security teams
The main winner is an enterprise whose security tooling already lives in AWS. Bedrock gives that team a familiar control plane for access, audit, and deployment while keeping Daybreak’s enrollment requirement.
The tradeoff is that token spend is only one part of the bill. A useful evaluation must include analyst review, false-positive investigation, sandbox infrastructure, remediation, retesting, and governance. Compare routes on cost per validated and fixed vulnerability, not cost per prompt.

What to do before enabling Daybreak on AWS
- Confirm Daybreak enrollment, AWS region availability, and the exact models approved for your organization.
- Start with Blue; move a task to Red only when specialized cyber behavior is required.
- Define authorized assets, test windows, approval gates, prohibited actions, logging, and emergency contacts before invoking either route.
- Run a fixed pilot and record valid findings, accepted fixes, analyst hours, total token usage, and total AWS cost.
- Compare the result with direct OpenAI access and a general-purpose alternative such as Anthropic pricing.
Bottom line
Daybreak on Amazon Bedrock is an important distribution change for approved defenders, but it is not a public launch or a discount. AWS currently charges a 10% token-rate uplift in its listed region. Buy the Bedrock route when its procurement and governance benefits outweigh that premium, and prove the choice with fixed-vulnerability outcomes.
