OpenAI GPT-6 ChatGPT Rollout: Pricing Impact (Oct 2026)

GPT-6 Intelligent UI reaches paid ChatGPT users October 7 and Free/Go October 8. See tier access, unchanged API rates, and what to do.

TL;DR

  • OpenAI is rolling GPT-6 with Intelligent UI into ChatGPT Chat: Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise start October 7; Free and Go follow October 8.
  • Paid tiers use GPT-6 Sol for everyday Chat; Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna. Enterprise access depends on admin settings.
  • OpenAI announced no new ChatGPT subscription rate or API token rate. Work and Codex models do not change in this release.

OpenAI is bringing GPT-6 and its new Intelligent UI to the Chat tab of ChatGPT. The October 7 announcement says Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise rollout begins today, with Free and Go beginning October 8. OpenAI says more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT weekly; that is its audience figure, not a count of people who already have the new feature.

What changes in ChatGPT

Intelligent UI lets GPT-6 compose answers with text, graphics, buttons, forms, charts, and interactive elements. OpenAI’s examples include a road-trip map, an interactive explanation, and an in-chat calculator. Its native component library and compiler stream the interface as it is generated. These are ChatGPT product features, not a newly priced developer UI API.

OpenAI also says GPT-6 can start answering while it continues to reason. In its own evaluation, GPT-6 Instant began answers to web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. The company says GPT-6 Extra High began answering as quickly as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring above GPT-5.6 Extra High on an internal everyday-agent task set. Neither result is an independent benchmark, a guarantee for every user, or a statement about token cost.

The live pricing table above shows existing public API model rates, pulled from our current pricing data. It is not a bill for using Intelligent UI in ChatGPT. GPT-6 Sol and Luna were already available as API models; today’s news changes their ChatGPT distribution, not their published token rates. OpenAI’s official API pricing card still lists GPT-6 Sol at $2 input / $10 output and GPT-6 Luna at $0.10 input / $0.50 output per million Standard short-context tokens. Cached reads, cache writes, and requests above the 272K input threshold have their own rates; the maintained table above shows the full model-specific values. These are API prices, not ChatGPT seat prices. The official ChatGPT pricing page is the plan source; this launch announcement does not publish a new seat rate or an Intelligent UI-specific fee.

OpenAI does not say that developers can reproduce ChatGPT’s Intelligent UI by calling those API models. Check OpenAI API pricing for current model rates and AI subscription plans for seat-price comparisons. If you are building an API application, use the token calculator to estimate its separate usage bill.

Who benefits—and what to do

Free and Go users gain a path to GPT-6 Luna without buying Plus solely to try the new Chat experience, once rollout reaches their accounts. Paid users gain the Sol-backed interface first. Enterprise teams should check admin controls before promising availability to employees. Developers using Work, Codex, or the API should not treat this announcement as a silent model migration or price cut.

  1. In ChatGPT, check the Chat tab after your tier’s rollout date; do not expect the feature in Work or Codex from this update.
  2. For a team, confirm Enterprise admin settings and test interactive responses on representative tasks before changing training or support materials.
  3. If you pay for a subscription, compare your plan against Free or Go after the rollout reaches your account; OpenAI has not specified identical caps or features across tiers.
  4. If you pay by API tokens, keep your existing cost forecast and evaluate any model switch separately. Our GPT-6 Sol and Luna launch analysis covers the actual API models and migration tests; compare Anthropic pricing as an outside baseline.

Our Labs coverage note keeps Intelligent UI outside the model leaderboard: existing exact-route Sol and Luna text scores do not measure an interactive ChatGPT interface, and no public Intelligent UI API or reproducible renderer/task bundle was announced. A defensible test needs fixed prompts, matched accounts, raw interactive outputs, working-control and accessibility checks, latency, errors, and complete cost records.

For builders who need an embeddable interface now, treat UI development and model inference as separate costs. To compare a hosted open-model control under the same app tasks, inspect Novita’s model catalog; it is not OpenAI’s native Intelligent UI. Bottom line: This is a significant ChatGPT access and interface release, especially for Free and Go. It is not a new API pricing announcement, a universal instant rollout, or a Work/Codex model upgrade.
