Claude Max and Team Add Monthly API Credits
Anthropic confirms monthly Claude Platform API credits for Max and Team. See who qualifies, what the credits cover, and whether they lower your real bill.

TL;DR
- Confirmed by Anthropic on October 7: eligible Max and Team plans now include monthly Claude Platform API credits. This is a credit, not a cut to per-token API rates.
- If you already pay for Max or Team and run your own API-key app or agent, claim the credit: it reduces the first part of your monthly Claude Platform bill.
- Do not buy a subscription solely for the API credit without comparing the subscription price, eligibility delay, and unused-credit expiry.
- Interactive Claude Code, Claude/Cowork extra usage, and Claude through Bedrock, Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry are excluded.
Claude plan price versus monthly API credit
| Plan | Monthly plan price | API credit |
|---|---|---|
| Max 5x | $100/month | $100/month |
| Max 20x | $200/month | $200/month |
| Team Standard | $25/seat/month | $20/seat/month |
| Team Premium | $125/seat/month | $100/seat/month |
Team credits are pooled by seat count, capped at $500 per month for the organization. Monthly Team plan prices are shown; annual billing can differ. Credits are not cash, expire each billing cycle, and require claiming into one Claude Console organization. Official credit terms · Live subscription data · verified 2026-10-08.
Is the API credit a discount or just prepayment?
Your API calls still incur the normal token rate. If eligible usage would cost A, the monthly plan costs P, and the available credit is C, your total cash cost is P + max(0, A − C). Pay-as-you-go without a subscription costs A. Credits are not cash and unused value expires.
| Eligible API usage / month | API only | Buy Max 5x only for API | Extra API cash if you already have Max 5x |
|---|---|---|---|
| $40 | $40 | $100 | $0 |
| $100 | $100 | $100 | $0 |
| $150 | $150 | $150 | $50 |
The last column is additional API spending, not the whole bill: the Max subscription is already paid. At today's $100 Max 5x price and $100 credit, buying Max solely for API does not beat pay-as-you-go. What the plan adds is the human-facing Claude product and its plan-limited chat/Claude Code allowance alongside the API credit—not cheaper API tokens.
Team is less favorable for API-only buying: 2 Standard seats cost $50/month and provide $40 in pooled API credit. If the team already needs those seats, the credit can still offset up to $40 of eligible API use. The full Team pool is capped at $500.
For scale, at our currently tracked Claude Sonnet 5.5 API rates ($2 per 1M input and $10 per 1M output tokens), 1M input + 100k output tokens cost about $3 before caching, batch discounts, taxes, or other charges. The Max 5x credit could offset roughly 33 such workloads in a billing cycle; it does not grant unlimited calls. Verify the model and token mix for your workload.

Verdict: the post is real. Anthropic’s October 7 release notes and official credit terms confirm the rollout. The screenshot summarizes the headline correctly, but leaves out several limits that determine the actual savings.
The table above separates the current subscription charge from the monthly credit. Team credits are calculated per seat and pooled, with an organization-wide cap. API token prices themselves have not been cut by this announcement. Your usage still accrues at the applicable Claude API rates; the credit pays part of that bill.
Who benefits financially?
If you already need Max for Claude’s apps or Claude Code, or Team for collaboration, this is incremental value: eligible Claude Platform API use that you previously paid for separately can now draw down the included credit. The maximum monthly cash-bill reduction is the credit you actually use, not necessarily the full advertised amount.
If you buy Max only to obtain API credits, you must add the subscription charge to any remaining API usage. On a Max plan, the credit is the same size as the monthly plan charge; it does not make API-only use cheaper than ordinary pay-as-you-go by itself. Team Standard and Premium have their own seat costs, minimum-seat rules, and a pooled cap, so compare the full organization bill, not a per-seat headline.
For a workload estimate, calculate your token costs first with our API calculator, then subtract only the credit you are eligible to claim and likely to use during that billing cycle. Do not subtract it from Bedrock or Vertex charges.
What qualifies—and what does not
The credit applies to Claude Platform usage in the linked Console organization: Messages API, Message Batches API, Console Playground, Claude Managed Agents, and the Claude Agent SDK. Anthropic says it works with any available Claude Platform model, including the newly launched Haiku 5.5.
It does not pay for interactive Claude Code in terminal, IDE, desktop, or web; extra usage in Claude, Claude Code, or Cowork; or Claude via Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry. Anthropic’s FAQ distinguishes claude -p or an Agent SDK run using an API key from an interactive Claude Code session. A third-party harness can consume the credit only when it actually calls the eligible Claude Platform API through a key from the linked Console organization; a Claude subscription login or another cloud route is not equivalent.
Claiming and expiration
Anthropic is rolling the offer out over several days. New Max or Team subscribers can claim after seven days on an eligible active plan. Max subscribers use Settings → Billing in Claude; a Team Owner or Primary Owner uses Organization settings → Billing. Link one Claude Console organization. The Team credit is claimed once for the whole team, not once by each member.
Credits arrive each billing cycle (monthly even on annual plans), are used before purchased credits, and do not roll over. Unused credit expires at cycle end. When it runs out, existing purchased credits or auto-reload may fund further API usage; without another balance, requests stop until the next grant. Anthropic says usage is never automatically charged to the Claude plan itself. Invoiced organizations continue under their sales billing terms.
This is distinct from the earlier one-time extra-usage credit discussed in our OpenClaw billing coverage. Do not combine the two offers in a cost estimate.
Bottom line
For existing Max and Team customers, claim it and set Console workspace spend limits so an agent does not silently consume the shared pool. For API-only buyers, compare the full subscription-plus-API bill with pay-as-you-go before upgrading. We will track the credit terms against Anthropic’s official source separately from model token pricing.
